The Findern Cemetery Garden of Remembrance is finally complete.

Following two years of discussions with South Derbyshire District Council the Parish Council was finally given a licence to create a Garden of Remembrance in 2019.

Following the decision, work started late September 2019 when a small group of volunteers removed earth (with the aid of a digger!) laid borders and paths followed by planting and mulching to create a Garden, which when established, will provide colour all year round and an area where people visiting the cemetery can sit and reflect on memories.

In early June 2020 the seat was positioned, finally completing the project. Permission was also given to the Parish Council to install a standpipe providing a source of water for visitors to water plants and flowers.

 

Particular thanks go to the team who worked hard to create the Garden, Councillor Martin Woodhouse, the team from Murray’s, Sue, Joan and Angela, Richard Winfield (and his Dad) and my wife, Jayne Ratcliffe.

Additional work was carried out by SDDC Cemeteries department; removing hedging, creating a durable path, extending the ground and recently, tree and hedge planting. This has helped to make a peaceful retreat for all who visit.
