The Parish Council is counting down to the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations in the Parish!

The Parish Council is counting down the days to the celebrations for the The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Residents of the Parish can join in several events over the weekend of 2nd – 5th June 2022

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee LogoStarting on Thursday 2nd June join us at the Hillside Recreation Field for a concert with Jayne Darling, a professional singer specialising in vintage, swing and jazz entertainment. Get dressed up, then bring your tables and chairs and picnics and fizz and enjoy what will hopefully be a sunny start to the Jubilee weekend. Doors open at 6pm, Concert will start at 7.30pm and the evening will round off with a Beacon Lighting ceremony at 9.45pm as we join in with other villages, towns and cities across the United Kingdom, linking a line of Beacons across the realm to commemorate the Queen’s reign. Please note, there will only be pedestrian access to the field, no vehicles allowed and entrance will be coned off to ensure access for emergency vehicles. Please be considerate to the local residents and walk to the venue, or drop off and park elsewhere. We recommend bringing a torch to light your way home at the end of the evening; and we ask that you take your litter home with you to help us clear the site and leave it tidy for others to enjoy over the weekend.

On Friday 3rd June join us at 2pm at the King George V Playing Field off Willington Road for the commemoration of the trees that were planted there earlier this spring; an Acer campestre ‘Queen Elizabeth’ (Field Maple) has been planted to commemorate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee year; and a Quercus petraea (Sessile Oak) has been planted in memory of HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh. It would be lovely to see as many children on the day as possible as they are the ones that will be the guardians of the trees in the future. Every child present will be given a packet of wildflower seed to grow flowers at home to help the bees.

On Saturday 4th June, the Village Hall is organising a Jubilee Fete that will take place between 12 noon and 4pm on The Green. Come along to enjoy the traditional stalls and games and help raise money for the Village Hall.

Then finally, on Sunday 5th June we are back up on Hillside Recreation Field for ‘The Big Lunch’ from 12 noon to 3pm. Bring your family and picnic to enjoy the afternoon; with children’s entertainment by our friends from Dream Parties including craft tent, traditional games and lots of competitions and fun. We would love to see lots of people dressed up with a Jubilee or Royal theme…there may be some prizes for best dressed! Please note, there will only be pedestrian access to the field, no vehicles allowed and entrance will be coned off to ensure access for emergency vehicles. Please be considerate to the local residents and walk to the venue, or drop off and park elsewhere. We  ask that you take your litter home with you to help us clear the site and leave it tidy for others to enjoy.

We look forward to seeing you over the Jubilee weekend!
